A big thank you to Science Boffin Andrew he was excellent and really great with all the children… The children couldn’t wait this morning to tell Miss Smith, their teacher, what they had learnt especially the exploding coke bottle with mints.. hmmmmm I wonder how many will be trying this at home.. I definitely will.

How about some science experiments you can do at home?

At Science Boffins, we are so excited about science, we just can’t keep it to ourselves – so here are some science experiments to try at home.

Like everything from Science Boffins, they are perfectly safe – we hope you’ll enjoy them so much you will want to do more!

However, PLEASE don’t do any experiments without getting permission from an adult!!

Some of the experiments state that you must have an adult present. We know it a pain to drag Dad away from the TV or get Mum to come and help, but we want you to be safe and grow into really useful scientists. So don’t endanger yourself or the cat. Follow instructions VERY carefully

And remember –we will be posting more marvellous science boffins experiments here - so come back soon and see what’s new!

Home made fire extinguisher

Most homes and all schools and businesses have fire extinguishers. Fire needs heat, fuel and oxygen – fire extinguishers work by removing one of the critical ingredients for a fire - this experiment shows one way to do it –
but make sure you have an adult with you when you try it!!!

Seeing your Blind Spot

Your retina ( the back part of your eye) reacts to light and sends signals to the brain – which is what seeing is. There is, however, part of the retina that doesn't give visual information. This is your eye's blind spot. You are so used to it, you don’t know it is there – until you try this simple experiment!

Run-away Spices

Adhesives make objects cohere (or adhere) together. Cohesion is the word for this sticking force. Cohesion occurs on lots of everyday objects - rain to car windows, chewing gum on the carpet – dirt to you when you have been in the garden. This experiment demonstrates cohesion. (and does not leave a mess like the chewing gum!)
